I was looking at guy and girl codes and I came across two vastly different yet interesting lists on urbandictionary.com that define girl and guy codes. Some of the things on the lists were pretty funny, but others (mostly on the guys list) were disturbing. I was wondering what you guys thought about these and how these rules are created? or even if they are true and exercised in society today?

It's actually kind of upsetting reading that list, it makes men appear so selfish and immature. I was interested to see how many of the things on the list had to do with fear of homosexuality, like, "Under no circumstances may two men share an umbrella." and "If you ever compliment a guy's six pack, you better be talking about his choice of beverage." It's strange to me because I haven't recently associated with people who are anti-gay, so I forgot how ridiculous people's fears can be. I wonder what age the person was who wrote that, because for the most part, I feel like a lot of these beliefs and fears are more present in younger men, like high school boys. Anybody agree?
ReplyDeleteI completely agree Dave but I think that even as guys get older they may still maintain some of those fears even if they are not as vocal about them. I don't know if you have ever read the Bro Code by Barney Stinson but it is pretty funny and I mean it was written by an adult for young adults and high schoolers so I think that just goes to show that as you get older you don't always change your guy code beliefs.
